User Reviews

Users praise Haaretz for strong journalism and honest, balanced coverage, especially Gideon Levy and Palestine reporting. However, reviews converge on a problematic app experience: persistent ads and pop-ups disrupting reading, even for subscribers; repeated login/subscription glitches; and ongoing instability (crashes, freezes, ad loops, navigation issues). While content is valued, the app’s ad-heavy experience and reliability issues detract from the overall experience.
Pros
  • Excellent journalism and insightful reporting (notably Gideon Levy)
  • Honest, factual coverage with balanced, multi‑perspective viewpoints (including Palestine)
  • Highly valued by subscribers for depth and quality of journalism
  • Covers a broad range of Israel-related and international topics with thoughtful analysis
Cons
  • Intrusive ads and pop-ups disrupt reading, even for paying subscribers
  • Login/subscription recognition problems and sign-in loops
  • Frequent app instability: freezing, crashes, and ad loops
  • UX issues like unclosable overlays and navigation bugs

Unacceptable to have pop up ads before going to content for such an expensive subscription. Half the time the pop up cannot be closed. How is it that a country that can precisely target Iranian generals in their beds can’t build a decent app?

I pay about $20 a month for a Haaretz subscription in both English and Hebrew. So please explain to me why I have to sit through pop-up gaming ads to access articles that I’ve already paid to read like they’re Grindr profiles. Although I hate them, I understand and can tolerate the periodic banner ads (journalism ain’t cheap!). But timed pop-up ads? That’s a slap in the face to your paying subscribers. Please don’t waste our time like that. It only gives us more time to contemplate unsubscribing.

I cannot access Haaretz app because there is no way to close the popup ad for chair yoga. I pay money for this?
