User Reviews

User reviews praise the SGV focus and usefulness of the local news coverage, but repeatedly cite reliability and access issues: frequent loading crashes and blank articles, intrusive ads and paywalls, stale content not updated promptly, and missing features like a business/local section. These recurring problems undermine usability despite the app’s strong local value.
Pros
  • Strong local San Gabriel Valley news coverage that SGV residents find valuable.
  • Keeps users informed with both local and global news, thanks to the app's coverage.
  • Positive layout/design when the app loads and functions properly.
  • Trusted local news source with nostalgic value for SGV readers.
Cons
  • Frequent loading problems including content not loading, crashes, and blank articles, making the app unreliable.
  • Overbearing advertising and video ads, with paid access or subscription requirements that gate content.
  • News content often not updated in a timely manner and can be several days old.
  • Missing or incomplete sections/features (e.g., business/local sections) and general navigational issues.

I love SGVTribune it’s been around awhile when I was a kid my grandma would receive a daily newspaper, she would have me go outside to get it well she was making breakfast and coffee. I would watch her read away while I ate and I thought to myself why would she read the paper when she can just watch the news on TV. Now that I receive my own subscription I can see why she would choose to read the newspaper rather then watch it on TV, the paper has alot more details on what is being reported and it has reports that don’t make it on the air that are still important to know about. The other big difference is the cost for monthly subscription’s back in the early 90’s a monthly subscription was $7 now it is $43 for monthly subscription but the digital subscription is around $20 or so. I do agree the price is high for subscription’s but i choose to pay for the daily print subscription of the newspaper that is one thing I do not want to change. Till this day the newspaper is on time and loaded with reports that is deemed not worthy for airtime. I love sticking to all SGV news from my hometown Diamond Bar to the far end of Monterey Park. I wonder if the digital version has all the same reports as the print does? Maybe one day I will take a look at it to make my recommendations on it. Thanks to SGVT keep up the swell work it is all much appreciated…
