User Reviews

Reviewers praise Avalanche Forecasts for its broad regional data, easy, all-in-one interface, and usefulness for planning and safety, including free access and quick, palm-sized forecasts with maps and details. However, recurring concerns include unreliable NWAC data updates and offline features, frequent bugs and crashes that break navigation and color-coding, and regional data gaps (notably CO/WA, Crested Butte removal, and zone errors). Several users also note outdated support for newer devices and screen sizes. Overall, the concept is strong and valuable, but stability and data reliability significantly affect usability.
Pros
  • Easy to use with an all-in-one interface for avalanche forecasts.
  • Broad regional coverage including NWAC data across North America.
  • Free to use, providing essential backcountry safety information.
  • Helps planning and safety with maps and in-depth descriptions.
  • Demystifies avalanche conditions and supports backcountry decision making.
Cons
  • NWAC data updates and integration are unreliable (data not pulling, updates missing, offline cache issues).
  • Persistent UI/UX bugs and crashes (missing color-coding, grey maps, misdirected navigation, orientation requirements, photos not loading, unresponsive zone options).
  • Regional data gaps and inconsistencies (CO not functioning, Crested Butte removal, 404 errors for zones, WA data issues).
  • Limited device compatibility and screen size support (not updated for newer iPads/iPhones).
Recent reviews
Offline cache feature not working for NWAC zones and Mt Hood zone doesn’t populate even when connected to internet. Would love to give this app 5 stars for what they’re trying to accomplish, but the execution is significantly poor for the NWAC regions at least.
