User Reviews
1948: Dawn of Future is very ahead of its time, while being similar to older titles. Crimson Skies' PC game from 2000 comes to mind when navigating the menus with the fictionalized aircraft, upgrades to the aircraft's flying and weapons, as well as the diegetic aspects given to the UI through the rolling down of the map when selecting a mode, and the realistic looking switches, buttons and gauges used in game. I especially enjoy a few of the features, namely the brakes giving you manueverability, gyroscopic cockpit view, and the dual buttons for the guns.
However, as far as games go, 1948 leaves a lot to be desired in 2026. It's been more than 13 years since the last update, and while I can understand the closing of the servers and compatibility with only older iOS devices, I don't understand why it's been left as a playable graveyard and nothing else.
You would've got 3 maps with 3 mission types each, as well as 2 training missions, but instead you get 2 maps, and 2 mission types. You would've got 9 planes with customizable liveries, all with upgradeable engines, avionics and weapon suites, but instead you get 2 planes, both with the same weapons and nothing else.
This game suffers because FrozenPepper made a barebones offline mode to keep the game from being entirely broken when they shut down the servers, which left the game barely anything beyond an advertisement for their next game.
I know I have no right to be unhappy with the game, as I didn't lose any money to play it, nor did I get much less than people who played the game in its heyday did, but when a game gets reduced further than it already was, it doesn't feel right. 1948 is a 3/5 game because it's a 4/5 game with the online content removed. You can't buy anything, you can barely win anything, and while the gameplay is solid, it was the only full-size plane game that FrozenPepper ended up making.
It's a novelty now, but would've been plenty fun in its time.
