Features & Capabilities

Knife Steel Composition Chart is a cross-reference database for knife blade alloys. It includes over 6,500 alloy names and more than 1,000 compositions, covering popular, high-end, and exotic steels. The database maps alloy names across 21 international standards and their equivalents, including proprietary names, with a simple bar graph-based comparison tool in three modes: mass percentage, molar masses, and atomic count per 1000 atoms.

Notes for users: this project is solo-developed; there are no translations planned. If you spot missing alloys or have problems, please report or contact via email. Feedback in reviews isn't as actionable; direct contact helps improve the data and tooling.

Been using this app for years now. It's a great reference for identifying and classifying different steels (not just for knives) from across the globe.

App is awesome but some relatively newer steels have not been added and the entries don’t seem to have been updated at all in like 4 years.

This app is very good for somebody who wants to be able to look up a kind of steel without having to go and search for. The only thing that had had was a way to compare different deals side-by-side. Considering it’s free there’s gotta be some give.
