Users praise the app for delivering Hot Rod as a portable, digital magazine and for a generally smooth reading experience. However, recurring issues include expensive past-issue access, login/restore failures, iOS compatibility problems (notably iOS 8), limited offline access, and occasional crashes, all of which undermine the otherwise strong fan appeal.

Pros

Terrific magazine and love that it's digital.
Works perfectly and lets you leave to look up info online and return to where you left off.
Very portable on the iPad; you can take Hot Rod on the road without packing magazines.
Ability to resize images for greater detail.
Long-time fans praise the magazine and express continued support for the digital edition.

Cons

Past issues are not included in the subscription and must be purchased individually, which many find overpriced.
Subscription login/restore problems prevent access to purchased content; devices log out and restores fail.
iOS compatibility issues, especially with iOS 8, causing failures to download or view content.
Offline viewing is limited; downloaded magazines can't be read without WiFi in some cases.
App crashes or stops unexpectedly and errors like 'cannot download folio' disrupt reading.

I have cleared cache and reload the app but when I don’t have WiFi I can’t view downloaded magazines

I was excited when I saw past issues in the view list but found out that you have to buy them at $5.99 each. You do get access to the current and all future magazines, but no past issues are part of the subscription. Very disappointed as there was no indication of this until I subscribed and that would have influenced my choice to subscribe. The issues are basically copies of the magazine, ads and all. Not bad, but some access to past issues (even a limited number) would have been nice. Or at least a discount for members. $5.99 for a single past issue vs $9.99 a year is pretty steep!!! $.99 each would seem to be a compromise that would be a slight gain over membership prices.
