User Reviews

Reviews praise Little Go as an open‑source, free, feature‑rich Go app that’s a strong learning tool with deep customization. However, many users lament the lack of a clear pass/end option, a sometimes unforgiving AI, and UX issues like unclear stone placement and small controls. The consensus points to a powerful tool that requires tweaking to be beginner-friendly, with UI quirks and occasional bugs.
Pros
  • Open source and free
  • Rich customization options (AI difficulty, board sizes, and more)
  • Strong learning tool for Go; beginner-friendly when tuned
  • Packed with features and smooth, well-built UI
  • Flexible AI with a range of difficulty levels for practice
Cons
  • No obvious way to pass end a game; end-game flow is confusing
  • AI can be too hard or unbalanced for beginners, even at easier settings
  • Stone placement is unclear and lacks a tutorial; UX can be confusing
  • Small touch targets and occasional input glitches (undo, taps not registering)
  • Occasional bugs or instability (e.g., game in progress on restart, placing stones failures)

Hey Patrick. Big fan of Go here. Game actually looks really great compared to some other ones I’ve tried. You did great. That being said, some of the reviews that said the human player can’t place any stones are correct. I’m on iPhone 14 ProMax with the most recent iOS update as of 03/2026 Also I’m a developer interested in helping with this OpenSource project

This is the best app for go play. It’s packed with features, very convenient, open source, and completely free—unbelievable. I wish I could donate, but I can’t find how. Thank you for creating this excellent project and for continuing to develop it.

I am novice player of the game of Go. I like this game very much. I almost always lose, but that is OK. I do not understand how to end a game and not save it. I can “resign”, and that works. But often I do not want to save the game. I just want to learn from having played it. I would like a single-click control that would end the game and reset the board to empty. Is there such a control?
