User Reviews

Users value the app for easy access to downloads/ebooks and as a portable storefront, but reliability is a major concern. Repeated crashes, PDF/video download failures, and library/purchase synchronization issues severely hinder use. Add to that startup failures and UI/update changes that obstruct navigation, and the experience becomes inconsistent. The concept is solid, but the app needs significant stability and UI fixes to fulfill its potential.

Pros

Easy, centralized access to Vanishing Inc. downloads and ebooks in one place, with offline reference material.
In-app storefront for browsing, previewing, and purchasing content.
Keeps content up to date and portable for on-the-go magicians (updated ebooks and videos).

Cons

Frequent crashes during playback or downloads, with videos failing to load or play.
PDF and video download issues, including PDFs crashing and downloads failing or losing progress (queue shows progress but may lack file names).
Purchases not appearing in the library or some items unavailable for purchase; blank pages or blank store sections after navigation.
App sometimes fails to launch or disappears on startup.
UI/update problems degrade usability (store/navigation broken after updates, new UI obstructs access).

It’s a great app in theory, but without variable speed playback, I will almost never use it. VI’s website has great variable speed playback.

Each time I try to watch my “downloads” the app vanishes.

I used to provide a 4 star rating, now it’s 2. While I love VI and their customer service is top notch, the app isn’t it. Back in 2021, I asked a question via a Q&A session when the app would be updated. They said by the end of the year. Aside from an internal UI adjustment in the home screen, no physical app adjustments have been posted to the App Store. The most recent problem I’ve faced is, aside from small-sized PDFs still not working, is most recent purchases haven’t been showing up in my library. On top of that, after deleting/reinstalling the app countless times, only about 1/3 of my library is there. Yes, I can use my browser, but what’s the point of using the app when you get to that level? Andi, Josh, or whoever is reading this, again, I love your company (and app… when it works!), but please, on behalf of magicians everywhere, update your app!
