Users like the app for its organized layout and solid local/national news, especially sports, and the helpful E-Edition. However, recurring problems with ads, stability (crashes and freezes), and access (login requirements and paywalls) dominate complaints, amplified by redesign-related usability issues and infrequent content updates. Overall, content value remains high for WV readers, but stability and accessibility improvements are needed.

Cons

Intrusive ads, including frequent pop-ups and video ads, disrupt reading.
Frequent crashes and freezes after updates, making the app unreliable.
Login/authentication friction: reminders not remembered, login screen issues, and paywall gating requiring an account.
Content updates can be infrequent and some stories appear behind a membership or are sourced from AP.
Redesign changes reduced usability and introduced ongoing issues.

This is absolutely the worst app that the Chas Gazette has had, the constant clearing of the website data and/or deleting the app then reinstalling almost on a weekly basis is absolutely ridiculous! Is there any new developments to update or replace? They need an app that works order to retain the online customers. If nothing is done, I will cancel my subscription.

While the newspaper is good, the app design is not. It will not “remember” my login credentials, and the login screen itself will not work without clearing cookies and browser history. It not only takes extra steps every day just to view the paper, but also results in my having losing my browser history for everything else. The previous app version worked MUCH better.
