Features & Capabilities

This app is an interactive social story about potty training that is customizable for boys or girls. The app also includes a visual schedule for using the potty and an extensive FAQ page that lists answers written by a board certified behavior analyst to common potty training questions.

Potty Training can be difficult for any child, and may be especially difficult for children diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome or other special need. Children with special needs often need more direct instruction of social skills like potty training.

Teaching toileting skills to any child may be easier and less stressful when visual supports like social stories and visual schedules are used. This social story explains accurate toileting information and ensures that your child will know what to expect from potty training. The visual schedule helps to generalize the skills taught in the story to potty time.

Social stories and visual schedules are important types of visual support often used with children diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome or other special need. This social story uses simple text and descriptive pictures to explain why potty training is important, as well as the process of “using the potty.”

Potty Training usually involves a social interaction between parents and child. Many children, especially those diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome and other special need, often fail to pick up on social cues, making learning a social skill especially difficult. Social stories may increase awareness of every step of the potty training process.

Social stories were first defined by Carol Gray in 1991 and are commonly used to break down a task or social situation into small and easy to understand steps, often accompanied by descriptive pictures.

Adding a social story to a potty training routine may help your child through the process by showing them what is expected. Social stories are incredibly easy to implement and are used by many professionals for a wide range of behaviors.

My son first wanted to play with the app because of the sound it makes after each action/time you touch the screen. Then he started to notice that it was about how to go use potty and he watched it over and over. One day he just decided he wanted to use the potty and he was potty trained! Never had an accident and didn’t wet the bed. I think allowing him the space to decide for himself as opposed to my “training” him, made it much less stressful.

HORRIBLE

Wasn't what I had hoped. There's no animation and no sound or at least the sound doesn't work. It focuses more on how EVERYBODY goes to the potty rather then HOW to potty. My autistic son needs DETAILS (not body parts but what happens in the potty) to see to mimic. I bought a $0.99 app and it has everything I wanted and plus he loves it. This was a waist of $4 !!
