Features & Capabilities

Powder Magazine's 50-year legacy of skiing and sports journalism comes to Chrome with this extension. Founded in 1972 by Jake and Dave Moe, Powder champions powder skiing as freedom and community, not just technique.

The extension provides quick access to Powder's stories and subscription details, including pricing (1 year for USD 24.99; non-US app stores will charge the equivalent currency) and renewal terms. It also links to the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. Note that some content may be restricted to subscribers; subscriptions are charged to the account and auto-renew unless turned off, with no cancellations allowed during an active period.

User Reviews

Reviewers praise Powder Magazine for excellent content and standout photography, plus strong digital delivery and iPad visuals. However, widespread stability issues, long gaps between updates, and subscription/purchase problems dominate the negative feedback. The app also lacks interactivity and user-friendly navigation, with concerns about billing after publication and inaccessible archived issues. Overall, the content is high quality, but reliability and UX need substantial improvement to meet expectations across devices and subscriptions.
Pros
  • Excellent content quality with standout photography and writing.
  • Great digital delivery with access to current issues and archived back issues.
  • Impressive iPad visuals and high‑resolution images (often better than print).
  • App improvements over time and responsive support noted by users.
  • Multimedia extras (videos) enhance the digital magazine experience.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and instability across devices, plus download issues.
  • Gaps in updates and long periods without new issues; outdated/unsupported on newer devices.
  • Purchasing/restoration problems and subscription management difficulties (lost purchases, cannot restore).
  • Poor navigation and interactivity; limited article discovery and non-optimized reading interface.
  • Billing concerns including charges after publication status and potential subscription issues.

The magazine went out of publication Oct 2021 but they still take your money if you subscribe.

Why can’t be more interactive? So 90s to simply port the content to a screen.

I love the content but I wish the magazine was responsive to my device meaning it just naturally fits my screen. I get it you are appeasing your advertisers etc, but you should check out how The Athletic app is designed. So much easier to read the content, not shrink/pinch/expand.
