User Reviews

Sedition Art offers a rich, varied art library and a buy-to-own model that can look great on TVs and across devices. However, multiple reviews point to serious reliability issues with casting to TVs, frequent app crashes, and confusing billing/subscription practices. Playlist management across devices is often flaky, and support responses are inconsistent. The core content is highly praised, but the current app experience and monetization/friction problems limit its usability.
Pros
  • Stunning, curated digital art collection with moving and still pieces from a wide range of artists.
  • Ownable art purchases with relatively low entry prices and potential resale.
  • Cross-device compatibility, including Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and various TVs, enabling playback across devices.
  • Great potential for large-screen displays and wall-mounted TV setups to showcase art.
Cons
  • TV casting/display is unreliable: black screens or inability to display art on TVs, plus portrait-mode rotation issues.
  • Frequent app instability and playback problems: crashes, black screens, and playback not resuming correctly.
  • Billing and pricing frustrations: mandatory subscriptions to view owned art, charges after cancellation, unsubscribe difficulties, and watermark gating.
  • Playlist management and cross-device syncing problems: difficulty creating playlists and playlists not appearing or syncing across devices/TVs.
  • Customer support often unresponsive or unhelpful.

I purchased a digital art piece a few months ago that is specifically designed to play in portrait mode. I then purchased a Samsung TV that included the Sedition art app and mounted the TV on the wall in portrait mode to display the art. The purchased art, however, would not play in portrait mode on the Sedition art app. When I contacted Support, they stated that the purchased art could not be rotated to portrait mode as intended, but I would have to find a TV with software to accomplish this. In addition, when I tried to play the digital Art on the TV, it quits playing within several minutes. When I contacted Support regarding the second issue, they did not provide a solution. The art itself is spectacular, but cannot be enjoyed for these reasons. I now have a TV mounted on the wall in portrait mode that is essentially useless.

Are you going to update the app at all?

I had trouble creating a playlist on my iphone 14 pro and had to use a web browser. Good concept. If you have a spare dedicated screen or smart tv and an old phone or pc… then it is a nice option, b/c you will need a phone/tv or a pc/display. This is so you can stream images and shorts to that device. I wish it had a Roku smart tv channel, so I did not have to stream from my phone. I’m sure someone could figure out a diy with a Raspberry Pi and display. That’d be great. Devs, maybe that’s something y’all could look into moving forward.
