User Reviews

Readers praise Times Union for strong local coverage and long-standing community value, and some appreciate easy digital access and early editions. However, the app is plagued by repeated login/subscription access issues, intrusive ads, inconsistent delivery, clunky navigation, and poor search/findability of recent stories. These recurring problems overshadow the positives and reflect a need for more reliable access, better UX, and cleaner content delivery.
Pros
  • High-quality local journalism and strong community coverage.
  • Positive sentiment toward digital access and the early edition feature.
  • Longstanding readership and appreciation for the paper's value in the community.
  • Noted for solid investigative reporting and thorough storytelling.
Cons
  • Frequent login/authentication and subscription access problems preventing reading articles.
  • Ads are intrusive and excessive, with pop-ups and banners disrupting the reading experience.
  • Delivery issues with both the physical paper and digital delivery reliability.
  • Poor navigation and user experience in the app, making it hard to reach the print edition or navigate sections.
  • Content access/search problems, including difficulty finding recent stories and results that return old articles.

After being a member for 20 years, it’s time to cut the cord. Unfortunately, the most articles are negative and critical. They imply the sky’s falling. My favorite two sections are sports and business. The sports section is upbeat and focuses on local high school sports which is admirable. The business section is basically worthless. If I was not a Capital Region resident I would think there is little to no growth here. Even the articles that involve growth have a negative twist. I want to read a factual, unbiased newspaper where the opinions are in the opinion section. I want the local, state, and national articles to be factual without a political spin.
