Features & Capabilities

SHIMADZU UV is a handy iPhone application tool for users of UV-Vis Spectrophotometers and allows users to check the chemical and physical characteristics of solvents quickly. Converter is a convenient application for the unit conversion such as wavelength to wavenumber.

Solvent You can view solvent characteristics which include the lower limit of useable wavelength, melting point and boiling point values, etc. for each solvent. Solvents can be easily chosen by scrolling through a list with the flick of the finger.

Converter Converter has five groups of units which are useful in laboratory operations. These include Wave, Distance, Mass, Pressure, and Angle conversions.

Information More information on the new Shimadzu UV-2600/2700 line of UV-Vis spectrophotometers allowing absorbance values to 8 Abs units and a measurable range from 185 to 1400 nm, please visit the Shimadzu Website at www.shimadzu.com.

User Reviews

While on a tour learning about SHIMADZU head quoter in Kyoto, I discovered they had built several technologies for iPhone and iPad and were telling us about their free app. As a commercial tool to advertise the company it is highly effective. As an everyday it is just average. Think of it like free 1Gb USB port giving to you after you visit some big name corporation.

I'm currently looking at getting a Shimadzu UV1800 spec, and when I saw you had a "Shimadzu UV" app I took it to mean you had an app to control your specs with an iOS device (wouldn't be unbelievable considering their PC connectivity.) At the very least, I thought it would be a lite version of your UV data analysis software. Instead it's just a list of a few properties for a few organic solvents and water, a calculator for doing a few kinds of conversions that are totally irrelevant to spectrophotometry, and an ad. I'm not really trying to slam the company here, I just wanted to give my feedback that there are tremendous possibilities to be found in integrating sophisticated science equipment with the sophisticated mini-computers we carry around these days, and it seems a shame that the opportunity in this case was instead squandered on a glorified ad.
