Features & Capabilities

Virtual Active turns indoor cardio into outdoor adventures with 16 stunning locations—from the Swiss Alps to Venice canals. The system adapts video playback speed to your effort, creating a dynamic, immersive workout for runners, cyclists, and hikers, with no extra hardware required.

Learn about your route with built-in info popups, choose from sixteen locations such as Northern Italy and downtown Chicago, and control your iPod music without leaving the workout. BitGym technology ensures the video speed responds to how fast you’re working out, supporting most treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes.

User Reviews

The reviews praise the app’s beautiful scenery, accurate pacing, flexible pricing, and easy use, plus a good range of locations. However, they consistently report stability problems after updates, fullscreen display issues on iPad, concerns about price vs. value, limited new content, and short/repetitive videos for some workouts. Addressing these could unlock the app’s full potential for home workouts.
Pros
  • Beautiful, engaging scenery and visuals that make workouts enjoyable.
  • Accurate pacing and speed tracking that works well with treadmills and exercise bikes.
  • Flexible pricing model that lets you pay for only the trails you want.
  • Easy-to-use interface with a clean, fast experience.
  • Good variety of locations and trails to explore.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and startup failures, especially after updates (including on iPad M1 Pro).
  • Fullscreen/video display issues on iPad; videos no longer run in fullscreen.
  • High price relative to perceived value, with many feeling the cost is not justified given stability/content updates.
  • Content/update cadence appears stagnant with few new locations and limited new content.
  • Some workouts have short or repetitive videos; desire for longer durations and more variety.

I don’t understand why the app continuously crashes on the iPad, an M1 Pro model. I have the latest version, I tried seething and reinstalling and redownloading, nothing works. Please give me my money back.
