Safety Photo+Video

Zero-knowledge backup vault

Overview

Features & Capabilities

Safety Photo+Video is a private photo and video vault designed to protect sensitive media with zero-knowledge encryption, flexible access controls, and secure backup. Photos and videos are encrypted on your device before upload, and only you hold the key required to decrypt and restore your backup.

Use Face ID, Touch ID, PIN, combination, or dot-pattern locks to protect your vault. Capture media privately, import existing files, organize private albums, and use decoy mode to keep your real library hidden behind a separate password. The app also supports encrypted restore, favorites, local Wi-Fi file transfers, and automatic locking.

User Reviews

Reviews consistently praise strong privacy, reliable organization, and solid handling of large libraries, with users noting years of safe storage and no data loss. Recurrent negatives include media transfer issues (especially video imports and transferring to new devices), security frictions (limited password options and recovery concerns), and occasional UI interruptions (ads/pop-ups). Some users miss features like a customizable slideshow and report GIF compatibility changes after updates. Overall, the app is valued for privacy and stability but faces transfer, security, and feature-related drawbacks.
Pros
  • Strong privacy and security focus with explicit praise for safely securing photos
  • Reliable handling of large photo/video libraries, with reviews noting smooth performance and no data loss over years
  • Effective organization features (organizing by events and dates) and overall ease of use
  • Positive, long-term stability and satisfaction (years of use with few issues)
Cons
  • Video import failures (issues importing videos; some long videos not appearing)
  • Device migration/transfer problems when upgrading or changing devices (photos not transferred to new phones)
  • Password security concerns (over-reliance on a 4-digit PIN; requests for more options and password recovery issues)
  • Ad/popup interruptions during usage (pop-ups reported in updates)
  • Missing or regressed features (desire to restore slideshow options; reports of GIF/media compatibility changes)

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I bought this app years ago because it was perfect for me. I could organize my photos by events and dates, then transfer them to my computer to store them on flash drives via iTunes. It worked great and without problems for years. I DON'T BELIEVE IN iCloud, and I'M NOT INTERESTED in storing my photos and videos anywhere other than my home. In the recent update, they removed the wired transfer option for photos from the app to the computer. I don't know why. I have a lot to transfer, and Wi-Fi isn't viable or reliable, just like iCloud storage isn't reliable. This isn't fair because they're trying to force the buyer to do something they don't want to do. I would appreciate it if they would add back the wired transfer option so I can connect to my computer with a cable and transfer everything. I would be very grateful.
