Features & Capabilities

Every singer as an A4 folder of songs they bring to rehersal, but now they can have all of their lyrics with them all the time. You can also create setlists of songs which can be edited and reordered. Setlists and individual songs shared with the rest of the band by email, iMessage, Airdrop, or printing them out.

Rather than searching online for other other people's versions of songs, this app displays your lyrics, which you've formatted as you want them (either on a computer or another app on your iPad). You can create them in Pages, Word, pdf, rtf or even jpg format then simply transfer them into the app. While initially designed for singers, PDF scores look amazing, so the whole band can get in on the act.

Not only does My Lyric Book remember your lyrics and set lists, but songs can be tagged with a tempo for the built in metronome, or linked to tracks in your iTunes library so you can refer to a recorded version or play a backing track from within the app. You can even send and receive midi patch changes, so selecting a song programs your keyboard for you (or have your lyrics selected for you via midi)!

If the rest the band is using the app too, then you can all sync up, so that the band leader can select songs and have them automatically selected on everyone's screens. (Note this DOES NOT distribute the lyrics, but selects each band member's version, so each band member can see their own parts as they've set up their devices). The app also automatically syncs with our backing track apps: My Playback and My Playback Solo.

Of course your lyrics look even better on an iPad, but an iPhone or iPod has plenty of screen space to display lyrics and you can always have it in your pocket.

You can use Airturn, Pageflip, M-Vave or other bluetooth pedals to scroll through your lyrics or select what each pedal does in the Settings app.

NOTE: No lyrics are included with the App. It displays lyrics you've already prepared. Lyrics can be added from a computer, via the Files app, or imported from other apps.

User Reviews

Overall, My Lyric Book is a cost-effective tool for organizing lyrics, lead sheets, and set lists, valued for live gigs and a simple workflow. Pros include low price, reliable core features, multi-band set lists, quick lyric access, and cross-device compatibility (Google Drive, PDF/iTunes import, and Bluetooth/WiFi sharing). Cons include reliance on a computer/iTunes to input content, flaky imports across apps, aging/under-maintained status on newer iOS, and a steep learning curve with some UI quirks. Support is generally responsive for some users.

  • Live-performance aids including quick lyric access, two-column PDFs, zoom, and easy printing/export of charts.
  • Good compatibility with external tools/services (Google Drive loading, PDF/iTunes import, AirTurn/Bluetooth/WiFi sharing).
Cons
  • Content input often requires using a computer/iTunes; no convenient in-app text entry.
  • Import/transfer between apps can be flaky or unreliable.
  • App feels outdated and not well maintained, with compatibility issues on newer iOS versions.

My team and I really enjoy using this app to store our lead sheets and chord charts for us. It’s cost-effective and it just plain works. **The main thing the team and I fell that this app needs is the ability to directly mark, highlight and add notes onto our stored music sheets . This addition and ability would be very helpful and I hope that the developers consider adding this feature to the app. Right now there is a drop-down box to add notes into and it becomes cumbersome when you’re trying to perform and read your sheet music and notes because the drop down notes make the music so small it’s difficult to read.

I have used this app for almost 10 years. As a singer entertainer of Urdu & Hindi Geet and Ghazals it has been the perfect app for me. It provided me with the ability to maintain list of song lyrics, create song lyric lists (by original singers, concert program, etc. etc.), ability to pull up lyrics at a moment’s notice during a live performance.

I love this app. It has just the right amount of functionality without a lot of extra complications. I gig in multiple bands, mostly as a keyboard player (so it doesn’t have to be just lyrics). I make my lead sheets and print them as PDFs, AirDrop them to the iPad into My Lyric Book. Set lists can be made for multiple bands/events with different sets of song selections, and edited/re-ordered (drag and drop) as shows evolve. And the low price! Thank you
