User Reviews

Battle Nations delivers a heartfelt revival that captures nostalgia with solid strategy gameplay, a witty story, and surprisingly fair F2P elements. The return is praised for its old-school charm and ongoing content, aided by a responsive devs. However, progression can feel gated by RNG and pay-to-win mechanics, and scarce resources slow early progress. Overall, a beloved revival that balances nostalgia with accessibility, though monetization friction remains a concern.
Pros
  • Nostalgia and revival of the original Battle Nations, bringing back the classic vibe fans loved.
  • Engaging strategy with a well-written, humorous storyline and memorable characters.
  • F2P-friendly monetization, with premium currency rewarded for playing and less intrusive pressure to buy.
  • Old-school charm and a responsive, community-focused dev team listening to players.
  • Rich content and long-term playability with ongoing updates.
Cons
  • Pay-to-win perception due to RNG-based boss unlocks and reliance on premium currency for progression.
  • Resource scarcity (bars/gears) at lower levels makes early upgrades and participation harder.
  • Balance and monetization friction, including gating mechanics and storage/resource paywalls.

I loved this game when I was a kid, and it still holds up today. I remember the witty dialogue and enjoyable graphical style fondly. Now that I have been playing since the rerelease and am much older it still holds up. There is a lot more depth to the higher levels of combat than I was able to engage with or grasp as a child, and that keeps me more engaged now. I’m sure the nostalgia assists my general enjoyment of the game, but it really is one of the best games on the App Store. I really miss those trucks that would drive around and deliver resources on at your base though. I felt it added more life and personality to your towns and gave some fun reason to build roads. So while I want to see some older content restored, the newer stuff they are adding, like ranked pvp, has been an absolute blast. Would recommend.

Madrona seriously needs to figure out how they want to implement updates. With this new update it’s completely ruining the game. We are all forced to play one mode to receive rewards and it’s an absolutely terrible strategy. Excluding groups of people on how they wanna play the game is a terrible development strategy. Fix your game
