Flashnote Derby

Flashnote Derby is a gamified Chrome extension that helps kids and music students learn to read music notes. In a fast-paced horse-race format, players identify notes to power their horse toward the finish line, with each round followed by a review of missed notes to reinforce learning. A new Practice Mode removes the timer to build accuracy and confidence before racing, making it suitable for beginners and classroom use.

The extension offers multiple ways to answer: play notes on any instrument (including transposing instruments), use a MIDI device, tap on-screen letter names, or play notes on the on-screen piano keyboard. It’s highly customizable—choose treble, bass, alto, or tenor clefs; set note ranges and key signatures; adjust time limits (or disable them in Practice Mode); and scale difficulty up to five-and-a-half ledger lines. Themed courses (Pretty Pegasus, Ecliptic Encounter, Reindeer Race) keep practice fresh. Optimized for teachers with quick setup, homework assignments, automatic progress tracking, and targeted review suggestions, Flashnote Derby makes music-reading both effective and enjoyable.
