User Reviews

Readers praise First Things for high-quality content and strong tablet presentation, but report ongoing access and usability problems: separate subscription barriers, limited interactivity, crashes after updates, and non-optimized mobile layouts. Addressing authentication, interactive features, performance, and responsive design would address the most recurring concerns while preserving the publication’s acclaimed content.
Pros
  • High-quality, thought-provoking content with excellent writing.
  • Visually appealing tablet presentation; the iPad version looks great and formats well.
  • Strong reputation and value for subscribers, with enduring relevance of the publication.
Cons
  • Subscriber access issues and login problems that require a separate app subscription.
  • Limited app functionality; no bookmarking, highlighting, or easy interaction with the text.
  • Stability problems after updates, including crashes and loss of saved content.
  • Poor readability and navigation on small screens due to non-optimized layout (bottom cutoffs, awkward paging, etc.).

Requires a separate subscription. I have a print and web subscription but I need a separate one for the app???

I love First Things as a publication, but this app stinks. It doesn’t even give me the option to sign in to my digital subscription with my username and password! Please fix this as I’d love to use the app to access this content!

Always thought provoking articles. However the “app” is little more than a pdf reader. In fact, it is less. You cannot save, bookmark, or interact with the text in any way. Also, this review seems to be in white colored font, so I can’t actually see what I am typing.
