User Reviews

Reviews consistently praise My Story School eBook Maker for being easy to use, kid-friendly, ad-free, and classroom-ready, with strong support for multiple books and sharing. The most frequent downsides are stability and performance (crashes), audio recording or playback issues, and UX gaps like missing guides and content-fit problems. Other recurring concerns include limited backgrounds/stickers and challenging cross-device or classroom management. Overall, it’s highly valued for engagement and learning, but needs fixes in stability, audio, and cross-device tools to reach its full potential.
Pros
  • Easy to use and intuitive for kids and teachers
  • Safe, kid-friendly, and ad-free with built-in parental tools
  • Strong classroom value: supports creating multiple books and sharing (e.g., Seesaw)
  • Encourages creativity with options to add images, audio, and multiple authors
  • Kids and parents repeatedly praise it and call it one of the best storytelling apps
Cons
  • Stability issues: crashes and the app not opening books
  • Audio problems: recording or playback not working
  • UI/UX gaps: lack of guides/bounding boxes, content cropping, and deletion issues for images
  • Limited variety: backgrounds, colors, and diversity in stickers
  • Cross-device/class management is clunky: syncing or exporting class lists is difficult

The overhaul update is trash and it wrecks the old works, effectively screwing over the kids who actually used your dead app. The two here who’d used it were devastated for weeks after their newly titled “legacy” stories they’d spent hours working on for so long were demolished by the new formatting. The kids can’t finish their old stuff. There are awful bugs (that are very consistent across devices!) that erased parts of old works, completely ruining them without any chance of restoring them with the correct tools. It’s clear this wasn’t done with the user’s best interests in mind in the slightest. I’ve been here long enough that I actually did use it when I was a kid and it sucks to see how far it’s fallen, using lifeless ai slop and getting rid of every original old feature, such as the original drawing tools, the charming (human made!) stickers, the stylistic (human made!) backgrounds and the option of the old color palette. Even the rectangle book format is gone, and for what? What drawing program uses squares? What kid draws on square paper? It’s pointless and just wrecks everything just for a fresh look. Using apple’s own drawing tools is just sad and uninspired. The old format only needed some bugs fixed. It could’ve even been given a fresher, newer look WITHOUT injecting it with cheap, soulless ai or getting rid of anything vital. They could’ve added new tools to the old ones. They could’ve made the books in the library just look a bit more detailed or something instead of changing the format. Seriously, to any parents or teachers looking to give their kids a program to draw and create stories, this is not the place. It’s probably only a matter of time before you get screwed over too. Just get your kids some real paper and stickers. Or a real drawing app. Heck, get freaking apple notes since they’re so fond of those tools anyways. Anything else. This app is an utter disappointment and I hope the creators know it.

Dear Developers, I have been playing My Story for a while, and I really liked it! But now there it has changed: it has more AI, more updates, and other stuff! I respect other people who like the updates but I do not like them. Can you change it back to the way it was before the updates, please? If you do not know what I mean, I mean if you can change it back to the original version like from 2 years ago. Thank you! - Name Anonymous In Note
