User Reviews

Users like Mumble for its easy-to-use interface and strong audio quality, and many acknowledge the ongoing updates. However, the app struggles with compatibility on newer iOS devices, frequent crashes, and instability when connecting. UI optimization on iPad is weak, large servers are hard to navigate, and several essential features (push-to-talk, whisper, background audio) are missing. Overall sentiment is mixed: functioning well when it runs, but reliability and feature parity lag on current devices.
Pros
  • Easy to use with a straightforward GUI compared to alternatives
  • Excellent sound quality (Opus) and good audio in gaming/group chats
  • Ongoing updates and support feel (64‑bit support and compatibility updates mentioned)
  • Useful for gaming teams and voice communication in group settings
Cons
  • Compatibility issues with newer iOS devices/versions (iPhone 16, iOS 16/17) and overall lack of timely maintenance
  • Crashes and instability when joining or connecting to servers; some reviews mention the app times out or shuts down
  • Poor iPad optimization and UI/UX; designed for iPhone screens and hard to navigate larger servers
  • Missing essential features (push-to-talk, whisper/shout) and limited background/audio routing options
  • Navigation problems in large servers (hard to collapse groups, heavy navigation) and settings accessibility friction

Echo cancellation is an absolute must for any version moving forward. I recommend it be done on the server. Why? Because a perfect Denial of Service attack is two people without echo cancellation in a channel talking and feeding back on each other making the channel unusable. Next problem that needs addressed is the app needs to be configured to work split screen if you’re not going to use screen real estate on the iPad. I’m using less than 25% of my screen on an app that doesn’t play well with other apps on screen. Really?
