Tagesspiegel - Nachrichten

The Tagesspiegel content is great. It‘s the top newspaper in Berlin. However the app is an annoying disappointment. It maked it hard to read the articles because they are interrupted by so many ads. I understand that ads are part of the business model. But 6-10 ads per article for a paying subscriber are too many to enjoy a read. The app is also a data hoarder. After months of use the data in the app has increased to almost 1 GB! And that is without downloaded epapers. I will continue to read the Tagesspiegel content, but in the browser, not in this disappointing app.

I’ve read the Tagesspiegel occasionally over many years and about a year and about a year and a half ago, I began subscribing. The news about Berlin (my favorite city), Germany and the world is outstanding. I find the app very straightforward and convenient. I always read the paper in German. The only thing I have trouble with—and I wouldn’t be surprised if it were my fault—is that sometimes the app doesn’t recognize me when I click on it; usually it does. I figured out though that if I input my password when asked, it takes me to my account, whereupon there’s a tiny script prompt in the upper left hand corner that says something like, “To Tagesspiegel.” (I use mostly Chrome browser.) The prompt is so small and in such light type, it is hard for us older people to even see. I do think the app developer could improve these two basic aspects: help the user to smoothly get to the paper when they click on the app or at most, one more click; and if you get misrouted to any page like Your Account, make sure it is obvious what you do on the next click to load today’s newspaper.
