Features & Capabilities

You can use the Vy app to quickly find departures for journeys by train, bus, metro, tram and boat across Norway. You can buy tickets from Vy and other transport companies such as Go-Ahead, SJ, Ruter, Kolumbus, Skyss and Brakar. It should always be easy to make the eco-friendly choice when travelling, so the Vy app also lets you:

· See relevant suggested itineraries in the journey planner – including how long it takes to walk or bike · Get real-time information on all departures · Receive push notifications about delays and cancellations affecting your journey · View your tickets and present your ticket for inspection · Check how full each carriage on your train is · Save your favourite routes and places that you frequently visit · Book taxis across much of the country · Listen to audiobooks and podcasts, and read newspapers and magazines

Thank you for travelling by public transport. Every journey counts!

User Reviews

Users praise Vy for its attractive, intuitive UI and multi-modal travel convenience. However, recurring problems include payment compatibility (especially for US/foreign cards and lack of Apple Pay), cumbersome login/setup, device verification blocks, app crashes around tickets, and difficult timetable/navigation. The requirement to install the app and create an account to buy tickets is also a frequent gripe.
Pros
  • Beautiful, intuitive UI that many users find attractive and easy to use.
  • Convenient all-in-one ticketing for VY, Ruter transit, and local buses.
  • Makes travel in Norway easier and more straightforward for travelers.
Cons
  • Payment issues: US/foreign cards often rejected, limited options (no Apple Pay) and PayPal friction.
  • Lengthy, error-prone login and account setup with device verification problems.
  • Instability: crashes when purchasing or displaying tickets.
  • Poor timetable/navigation: hard to see train lines and schedules; previous version was easier to navigate.
  • Mandatory app install and profile creation just to buy tickets.
Recent reviews
I found the Vy app frustrating to use when trying to purchase tickets. Adding a payment method was unnecessarily difficult, and the process was not clearly explained. Only after I went to their website did I find out that for American customers, the app only accepts PayPal and American Express. This limitation was not made obvious upfront, which caused confusion and wasted time. This information should also be clearly displayed in the app for easier interaction. The app could be much more user friendly by clearly communicating accepted payment methods before customers reach the checkout stage.

Y’all. The app works fine if you’re literate (and you don’t even need to learn Norwegian for this—they have English, too)! The app was well made and easy to use, and had some helpful tourist information, as well!
