User Reviews

TonePrint for iOS is easy to use and offers a broad tone library with powerful customization when it works. However, it is plagued by repeated reliability problems: Bluetooth connection failures to pedals, frequent crashes, and poor preservation of TonePrints across reinstalls. Online updates and online mode are often inaccessible, forcing offline workarounds. These issues degrade live performance and long-term workflow, though some users experience stable operation on certain devices.
Pros
  • Easy to use / intuitive interface when the app works.
  • Large library of tones and presets to explore.
  • TonePrint features enable deep customization and great tones when functional.
Cons
  • Frequent Bluetooth connectivity issues between the app and pedals leading to failed pairing or control.
  • App crashes and instability (crashes on launch or during use).
  • No reliable export/back up of TonePrints; presets can be lost on reinstall and hard to transfer between devices.
  • Online mode and firmware updates are often unavailable; offline mode limits updates.
  • Limited bidirectional syncing; can't always see or re-load which TonePrints are loaded on the pedal.

The app is great, when it connects, which is about 50% of the time. It eventually will connect, but you often have to turn your Bluetooth on and off (on phone and/or pedal) before it connects. You’ll want to do all your testing and pedal setup before your session or performance- definitely not on the fly- it’s way too undependable. Hopefully TC can sort this out. It has so much potential!

Every three or four months, I try and update the firmware and get access to the TonePrint app. As of April 2026, I still can’t access TonePrint in an online mode, which is necessary to update firmware. I’ve tried doing it on my laptop, it never connects. I used to be able to access the TonePrint app on my iPhone, and now it gives me an off-line access, which doesn’t let me do anything. I like in this application to a very soft bowel movement. Avoid this plethora one product like the plague.

This app is buggy and presents constant issues. But outside of the software being sub par, there are two MAJOR issues with it. First, there is no way to export TonePrints. Many issues with the app require deleting it and re-downloading it. So guess what, you lose all your TonePrints (presets). I’ve had to sit there and take screenshots of my settings so I could find a way to repeat them, which is insane. Additionally, the app communicates to the pedal, but not the other way around. E.g. if you have a Plethora X1 and load 14 different TonePrints into the slots, there’s no way to later figure out what you loaded into the pedal. You just have to remember, or name your TonePrints in a way that helps. My app currently isn’t connecting to my pedals, so I will have to delete and download it again, thus losing all of my presets. In 2026 this is beyond sub par.
