Features & Capabilities

Fing - Network Scanner for Chrome helps you quickly identify every device on your WiFi, verify speeds, and spot security issues. It provides detailed device information such as IP address, MAC address, device name, model, and vendor, helping you understand who is using your network and why it’s slow or vulnerable.

Beyond basic scanning, Fing offers advanced tools like port scanning, ping, traceroute, DNS lookup, and real-time alerts to your phone or email. If you add Fingbox, you can enable Digital Presence, Digital Fence, parental controls, bandwidth analysis, and open-port detection for deeper home-network protection.

User Reviews

User reviews are mixed. Some users find Fing useful with understandable security scan results, helpful knowledge resources, and reasonably priced premium features, and regard it as user-friendly. However, many reports focus on pricing and billing problems, persistent upsell prompts, generic device labeling, and reliability issues after updates (loss of connection, unusable features). Overall, value hinges on how well the subscription model and device identification work for a given user.
Pros
  • Security scan results are understandable and there’s a helpful knowledge base.
  • Advanced/premium features are reasonably priced and provide more insights.
  • Overall, the app is user-friendly and works for some users.
Cons
  • Aggressive upsell and ongoing subscription prompts; free trial experiences interrupt usage.
  • Device identification often labels devices as generic and fails to clearly identify cameras or other equipment.
  • Reliability and usability issues after updates: lost connection, unclickable links (e.g., router vulnerability/hidden camera), and input getting stuck.
  • Pricing issues including limited free scans (one per day) and unexpected charges or failed upgrades; billing problems.

I like Fing. The app performed immediately after I downloaded it. I actually had a pirate hitting my WiFi, so between Fing and a little self education I think that problem is solved. Today I opened the news email they send. It is interesting and well written. I won’t discard this one. When the coffee is finished brewing I am going to read most or all of it. This was just one of the best surprises in my day today. Me, the “I hate tech” attitude old person, is brewing coffee to read a tech newsletter. Fing should get an award for this. Thanks, Fing!

When I do a speed check on a gig plan that I have it shows me a 5.9 and 4.1 mbps when two other apps show me in the 400’s or higher. Not sure why only this app says this? I’ve used this app in the past but never seen this happen. Update: Why can’t it pick up my WiFi security cameras? I have two of them and to be honest it has never picked up any camera unless I say it’s a camera in the description. I want a refund!!!!
