User Reviews

Pillboxie is praised for its simple, user-friendly UI, offline reliability, and relentless reminders (with snooze) that remain effective over years. Users value the photo-based pills, the drag‑and‑drop scheduling metaphor, and the ad-free experience. However, multiple reviews note recurring downsides: stale compatibility with newer iOS versions, bugs that block adding/editing meds and can cause data loss, travel-timezone reminder issues, lack of backup/restore and cross-device syncing, and occasional crashes or an outdated feel. Overall, it’s trusted but in need of active maintenance and feature updates.
Pros
  • Simple, intuitive UI that’s easy to set up and use, with support for using photos of your meds.
  • Relentless, persistent reminders (nagging) with a snooze option that help you stay on schedule, even if you’re busy or the device is sleeping.
  • Offline functionality with no ads or subscriptions, keeping the experience lightweight and private.
  • Flexible scheduling via the pillbox metaphor and applicability to non‑medication tasks (e.g., PT activities).
  • Longstanding reliability; many users report years of dependable use and continued value.
Cons
  • Poor compatibility with current iOS versions due to little or no ongoing updates; users worry it won’t work on newer iOS releases.
  • Bugs that prevent adding/editing meds or cause meds to disappear from reminders after updates; data management issues are frequently reported.
  • Reminders may be affected by travel/time-zone changes, leading to mis-timed alerts for some users.
  • Lack of backup/restore and cross‑device synchronization; data cannot be easily moved or backed up.
  • Outdated UI and occasional crashes or performance issues; many feel the app needs modernization and active maintenance.

The best feature is the bagging reminder. Needed for someone who forgets. But it just works. You set the schedule, you can input if you skip/miss meds, there's no subscription, no email list, no ads. It just works. I just need this app to be updated for at least iOS 18, so I know it'll still work for the next few years. But there's no better medication app.

I have been using this app for years. The older I get, the more I appreciate it.

Great app but when traveling it doesn’t seem to know that you are in a new time zone for several days and instead reminds you two or three hours early or late depending on the direction of travel.
