User Reviews

Users praise the app for its clean navigation and solid coverage, with readability improvements on iPad. However, recurring issues dampen the experience: ads and paywalls gate much of the content; the ePaper is inconsistent or hard to access; the app loses your place when you switch apps and makes saving or sharing articles unreliable; and many dislike the new format and layout, including intrusive top banners. Addressing these would improve reader retention.
Pros
  • Clean, easy to navigate interface
  • Informative reporting with strong local/national coverage and sports
  • Readable on iPad with adjustable font size
  • Puzzles/Arts & Entertainment content appreciated by some users
Cons
  • Intrusive ads and paywalls gating content
  • ePaper accessibility issues on iPad and with the new format (not current edition, difficult to access, losing reading position)
  • Reading progress not retained when switching apps (returns to front page)
  • Unable to save, bookmark, or email articles reliably
  • New format/layout criticized and heavy ad interruptions

A reader of almost 63 years, I was glad to see the epaper BUT along with it kept the constant updating of apps leaving a lot of us with devices that could not keep up and update without purchasing new equipment. I can no longer even get the paper without purchasing a new device. I will stop my subscription.

I regret updating to the new app. The old version was much better. You cannot easily see multiple articles at a time. Too much scrolling.

AJC is promoting this as an improvement over the AJC eReader app,but it is clearly inferior. Basic usability features are just not there. The biggest issue is that if I switch to another app for a few minutes and come back, the app forgets my location and I have to find the page I was on to resume reading. Another issue is less of the screen is dedicated to the newspaper page, because more space is consumed by ads and navigation. I already pay for the newspaper, the newspaper contains ads, and then you clutter up the ePaper with more ads. Get real. Please stop nagging about the change to this new app, unless it’s really a superior product.
