User Reviews

Users like the GPS-based maps, region guides, saved favorites, and traveler-friendly reviews from Texas Monthly, but the app is plagued by crashes during search, poor maintenance, outdated content, and weak mapping/search capabilities. These reliability and data freshness issues diminish a strong concept.
Pros
  • GPS-based proximity maps and region-specific guides help you find nearby Texas BBQ quickly.
  • You can save favorites, map out visits, plan meals, and see other users' ratings.
  • It’s a trusted Texas Monthly resource for BBQ, helpful when traveling.
  • Proximity lists (Top 50 near you) make it easy to locate popular spots.
  • It’s a convenient way to track your visits and know what to order based on reviews.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and instability, especially during search use.
  • Lack of ongoing maintenance and updates; content feels outdated.
  • Mapping and search limitations (no town/ZIP search; proximity data can be incomplete; some places missing).
  • Reviews/content appear outdated and not refreshed with newer venues.
  • Navigation issues like the app sometimes not opening or back button not functioning.
Recent reviews
Drove hundreds of miles across Texas, spent hours in lines, spent a small fortune on bbq only to have the app log me out and delete all of my stamps

This app needs an update. Not sure it’s keeping up with the places Daniel Vaughn has reviewed recently. Texas Monthly should also consider creating a Taco Finder based on José R. Ralat reviews
