User Reviews

Guitarism is widely praised for its realistic guitar sounds, solid MIDI-out routing, and an uncluttered yet deep interface that makes it a go-to for jamming, recording, and music creation on iPhone and iPad. The main downsides are a stagnant development cycle with no major updates in years, a limited 6-chord palette that many users want expanded, a price that some feel is high for the feature set, and missing features like MIDI input and richer chord/modal options.
Pros
  • Realistic, high-quality guitar sounds that many reviewers consider the best among iOS guitar apps.
  • MIDI out and external routing enable layering with synths, DAWs, and Mac VSTs.
  • Uncluttered, intuitive interface with depth that is easy to learn yet powerful.
  • Strong cross‑app compatibility (GarageBand, Audiobus) and good iPad/phone support.
  • Very enjoyable to play and widely regarded as one of the best guitar apps for practice, jamming, and recording.
Cons
  • Only 6 chords on the palette; lack of room for more chords or easily adding rows or rearranging boxes.
  • Development appears stagnant with no major updates for years; perceived abandonment by some users.
  • Relatively high price for the feature set; several reviewers feel it’s expensive compared with similar iOS instruments.
  • Missing MIDI input and some advanced chord/modal features (e.g., richer chord types, inversions, modal support).
  • Occasional reports of Bluetooth audio issues in some setups.

The best

On both phone and pad this is a game changer for me. With midi out I can bring my other sound apps and even Mac VSTs to life. A few things I would change for a paid Pro upgrade: 1 moving chord boxes position on-screen. 2 Adding more chord boxes to the vacant screen real estate on the pad version 3 Keeping only and changing the chords you set up when transposing. Not recording chords when you go to a minor key. 4 Modal support 5 Allowing all the positions of easy chord type 6 String bending and finger vibrato 7 Midi learn for key boxes so you could change chords with a keyboard and strum with the other hand. MPE capability. 8 Watch support to change alternative chord selection
