User Reviews

Sketch Club is a long-running drawing app praised for its deep toolset (layers, transparency, brushes), an intuitive interface, and a supportive built-in community with chat and a whiteboard. Many users call it their go-to on iPad and a great value for the price. However, frequent stability issues affect some users—crashes or freezes when zooming or with large canvases, often after updates or on newer iOS. Updates can regress tools, and there are concerns about moderation in the community and some features being removed or broken (autosave, cloud sync, music).
Pros
  • Rich drawing toolset with layers, transparency, overlays, and custom brushes.
  • Built-in community with public chat and a whiteboard that fosters collaboration and inspiration.
  • Intuitive, easy-to-learn interface suitable for beginners and professionals.
  • Consistent quality and outputs; many users consider it the go-to drawing app on iPad.
  • Great value for the price; users feel it’s worth the investment.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes/freezes when zooming or handling large canvases, especially after updates or on newer iOS.
  • Updates/regressions introduce bugs (tools like fill, color wheel, brush size) and reduce reliability.
  • Mixed community experience: supportive but reports of toxicity and moderation concerns.
  • Some features are missing or broken (autosave/cloud sync, music option) and some workflows feel disrupted by removals.
  • Long-term users report regressions in core tools after updates that slow or complicate workflows.

Used to have options to show/record layers, canvas zoom and turning, and add music. Those are gone now? Also, the option to add music still technically exists but doesn’t work.

I had many years of fun on this app. I had a friend who helped me compose music and a couple others that did album covers. I drew for many years and one particular friend we had a falling out but I forgave him. I became a Christian and doing better I had lots of years of fun on this app. Drawing helps with mental health problems. And I composed 14 albums.

I use this app for all of my mock-ups for my artwork. it allows me to see how things will look before i put my first brush to canvas. using transparencies and layers that allow me to overlay! brilliant app, i have used since it came out and still use every single day.
