User Reviews

Flash Reader offers strong speed-reading benefits and EPUB support, with users praising its on-the-go usefulness and innovative approach. However, recurring issues drag on the experience: crashes after updates, unreliable progress tracking, paywall–driven changes, limited navigation tools (no table of contents or easy rewind), and content-loading/ compatibility problems. Consequently, the app is valuable when it works but suffers from stability, accessibility, and monetization frustrations that many reviews repeatedly mention.
Pros
  • Significantly speeds up reading and helps maintain a steady pace, making long texts easier to read on a mobile device.
  • EPUB import support expands usable content and is described as a game-changer for accessing non-native formats.
  • Great for travel and on-the-go reading, enabling reading without traditional e‑book layouts.
  • Innovative, speed-reading approach is praised as better or more effective than similar tools (e.g., Spritz) by some users.
  • Overall value and usefulness when it works, with users noting it can be worth the price and highly effective for focus and comprehension.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and instability after updates or when enabling features (e.g., camera integration) compromising usability.
  • Inconsistent and unreliable progress/resume tracking, including inaccurate resume times and difficulty locating the last reading position.
  • Monetization changes and feature removal: loss of free Pocket sync, forced upgrades or higher costs for features, and broken restore-purchases flow.
  • Navigation and content navigation gaps: no table of contents, reliance on a single large slider, no easy rewind or quick way to jump back to a location.
  • Content loading and compatibility problems: some users cannot load content at all, Kindle/DRM compatibility issues, and poor or unresponsive support (e.g., 404 pages, unaddressed emails).

Who would have thought years later that this type of concept would be integrated into short form videos on platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram for the captions. This app is the only ways re cents that I have completed reading books. I just wish it had fancy text like the captions on the newer videos.

It was good until it restarted the book I was reading, which is a pretty big issue since you can’t skip around. These two things make it pretty much unusable.

Free app that works with Pocket? Nice! Nope, gotta pay to sync with pocket Alright, it's an investment Nope, since I log onto Pocket using my Google account, I cannot connect it to Flash. Ugh Back to research *FOLLOW UP* I clicked help and I got asked to enable notifications.... Magically, the "skip" button is not working but the "ok" worked alright 🤦🏻‍♂️👎🏼
