User Reviews

Reviewers praise Scott Maxwell and the Sentinel's local journalism, and many feel the subscription is worth it. However, the app is plagued by ads, update-related content access problems, landscape mode issues on iPad, login friction, and high local storage use, all of which hamper readability.
Pros
  • Scott Maxwell's columns are a major draw and repeatedly praised by readers.
  • Long-time subscribers feel the app/subscription is worth the money.
  • Readers value the Sentinel's high-quality local journalism.
Cons
  • Intrusive ads and frequent full-screen pop-ups disrupt reading, even for paying subscribers.
  • Update-related issues break access to articles or prevent viewing the eEdition.
  • Loss of landscape mode on iPad (orientation support) after updates.
  • Login/sign-in problems and repeated re-authentication disrupt access.
  • Excessive local storage usage (e.g., 40 GB) with no easy way to delete older issues.

I appreciate the local news coverage, but this app needs improvements

The recent update to version 10.0.51 has resulted in all my photos in the digital edition of the newspaper to be low resolution including the drawings on the comics page. This also seems to affect the evening edition as well. Very disappointed about this latest update. I hope someone can look into this without me having to pay an app technician 5 bucks to submit the problem.

Once again the app all of a sudden has a new glitch. It’s quite impressive how many different glitches the creators of this app create seemingly at random. The latest is now I randomly cannot go back to the full page after reading an article. When I click the back arrow it closes me out of the edition. When I open the edition again it takes me to the same article. Yes I’ve deleted and downloaded the edition. Yes I’ve reinstalled the app. I look forward to this randomly working in a couple months followed by the next ridiculous glitch a couple months later. My unwavering support for local journalism is the only reason I put up with this. But for how much longer? It’s anyone guess.
