User Reviews

Overall, Fooducate offers strong nutrition insights and logging features, but users repeatedly report heavy premium gating, ads, unreliable scanning, difficulty editing past entries, billing problems, and frequent bugs that hinder usability.
Pros
  • Comprehensive nutrition tracking with an easy A-D grade system and macro/mineral/vitamin breakdown.
  • Free version includes a large food library, including restaurant items, for easy logging.
  • Supports tracking recipes and frequent meals for quick, repeat logging.
  • Tracks water and weight and adapts calorie targets as you lose weight.
Cons
  • Paywall and ads with frequent prompts to upgrade; many features gated behind a paid plan.
  • Barcode scanning and database reliability issues; items may not be recognized and many entries require manual addition.
  • Limited ability to edit past days or user-added foods; editing is not easy.
  • Billing problems and slow/unhelpful customer service; unexpected charges and refunds delays.
  • Frequent bugs and performance problems, including slow loads and crashes.

This app used to be incredible, and now it’s utter trash. It’s very buggy and looks barebones. You can tell that after more than a decade, the devs clearly don’t care anymore. I also paid for it long before there was even a subscription. It freezes when I try to restore… Convenient.

I have been using this calorie tracker since I was taught about it in middle school health class and it’s great. The UI is very user friendly. I love that you can create your own meals to quickly add frequent foods. The annual cost for the pro features is affordable and worth the money in my opinion.

Second time trying this app as a basic calorie counter and it just is not up to snuff. Most of what you try to scan just flat out doesn’t, or times it’ll tell me the scanning feature is locked behind a paywall. The search function is pretty bare bones as well, I can’t find most of the products you can commonly find in most grocery stores. I don’t appreciate being bombarded with popup ads at every tap, any time I need to change screens I know I’m going to have to close a popup ad asking me to upgrade, or trying to close an actual advertisement and am greeted with yet another popup to upgrade to a paid plan to remove ads. Overall, this app is just annoying to use. There’s plenty of better free options out there.
