User Reviews

LEO Dictionary is a long-standing, generally appreciated tool for German-English and other languages, valued for on-the-go translation and its combined dictionary/forum results. However, user reviews repeatedly flag a heavy, intrusive ad experience and pushy tracking that raises privacy concerns. A series of recent updates are blamed for a clunkier UI, reduced features (notably offline vocabulary training), and worsened navigation, leading many users to abandon the app in favor of browsers or alternative resources.
Pros
  • Long-standing, trusted dictionary resource for German–English and other languages.
  • Great for translating on the go and reading German content; widely used by learners.
  • Integrated dictionary and forum results in a single search, aiding comprehension.
  • Multi-language coverage beyond German–English.
  • Free to use (ad-supported), widely relied upon by users and students.
Cons
  • Intrusive ads, including full-screen and long video ads, disrupt word lookups and break usability.
  • Privacy/tracking concerns due to ad personalization prompts and tracking, with GDPR-related issues.
  • Recent UI updates caused a poorer navigation experience and reduced functionality.
  • Offline vocabulary training removed or disabled, hindering learning in low-connectivity settings.

“Update” ruined the app, once great Dictionary no longer works, so it’s useless.
