User Reviews

QuiltingCalc is a long‑time, go‑to fabric calculator that saves time and helps plan borders, bindings, and yardage. It is praised for reliability and usefulness across projects, especially for shopping. However, users repeatedly report stability problems (crashes, blank screens, and startup failures) and confusing numeric input that can trigger errors. Some calculations for borders can overestimate yardage, causing fabric waste. Overall, it remains valued, but performance and input accuracy issues limit its reliability.
Pros
  • Saves time and reduces fabric waste by accurately calculating yardage, borders, and binding.
  • Long-time, reliable go-to tool used by quilters and shops; widely recommended.
  • Helpful for fabric shopping and planning; indicates exact strip counts for bindings.
  • Consistently useful across projects and has a broad, loyal user base.
Cons
  • Frequent stability issues: app crashes, freezes, or won’t open (blank screens) across updates.
  • Input validation can be confusing or strict, with users unsure which measurements to enter and numeric requirements triggering errors.
  • Border/yardage calculations can be imprecise, occasionally leading to too much fabric being purchased or wasted.

This calculator app is buggy. Ages ago, I used to love using this app but when calculating for multiple quilts, I have to exit the app because it won’t go back so I can put in new measurements or put in measurements for a different field. It’s so frustrating.

I have had a problem with this app all day and I never have before. After entering the measurements required, when I tap calculate, it says something to the effect that I need to enter a number in the width. First, I don’t know if it means width of fabric or width of quilt. There are numbers in both places. I really like this site but I’m very frustrated with this issue. I hope you can fix it.

Since the update I keep getting fabric width must contain a number or border 3 needs to have a numeric number. Ugh!!! There are numbers in the field and I don’t want 3 borders. Please fix this issue.
