However, user reviews cluster on severe usability problems after recent updates: frequent crashes and freezes, slow loading, an ad-heavy UX with full-screen ads and external redirects, a redesigned UI that worsens readability and navigation (no dark mode, font controls), and puzzles that fail to load. These issues detract from otherwise valued content, causing some users to delete the app or rely on the web instead.

I am a New Zealander living overseas, I actively look to keep current wit sport ans local news back in NZ. Stuff has been a bridge for this. The last 6 months the app’s functionality has become frustratingly ‘buggy’, slow, Purlple screens, generally rubbish. Reluctantly hanging in there but I am close to the point of deleting.

No comment about the journalism, stuff are my main go to for NZ News. However, the app UX is awful. Incredibly sensitive to scrolling be interpreted as move to next article. Makes it incredibly frustrating to read longer articles. Also no Dark mode.

Used to be reliable but now I can’t scroll through the news with the App freezing up. A real WOMBAT - waste of money brains and time. Don’t install it.
