Features & Capabilities

Genius Scan is a pocket document scanner that lets you quickly capture paper documents on the go and export them as multi-page PDFs. Using your device’s camera, it auto-detects the document against the background, crops it, and cleans up the image for a crisp, legible scan. Batch scanning enables dozens of pages in seconds, and you can save, share, or archive your documents with ease. With millions of users and a history of strong privacy practices, Genius Scan is a trusted tool for students, professionals, and small businesses alike.

Key features include smart scanning with document detection, background removal, distortion correction, and shadow cleanup; a variety of filters; PDF creation and editing (merge/split, multi-page PDFs); and secure on-device processing. It supports document tagging, metadata search, smart renaming, and optional Genius Cloud backup and sync across devices. Exports cover Email and a wide range of cloud services (Box, Google Drive, Dropbox, Evernote, OneNote, OneDrive, iCloud Drive, WebDAV, etc.), plus automatic background export. The app also offers OCR/text recognition, creating searchable PDFs and even business-card scanning with contact creation, and it supports password protection for sensitive documents.

Genius scan has made my life much easier.

Overall I find the export workflow confusing and wish I could designate a local path as the default location for scans to go. I would like to integrate with my Nextcloud instance but that is not easy. I also don’t appreciate that there’s an “ultra” tier of subscription with supposedly more sync options gated behind that, when I already paid for the app a decade ago. Edit: developer responded talking about the “tier” of “plan” I purchased. There were no “tiers” or “plans” when I met this app. I would like WebDAV support but I’m fine just doing local export with the shortcut approach mentioned. I don’t use commercial clouds or any SaaS.
