User Reviews

Users largely praise Pinyin Trainer for authentic pronunciation, strong tone-training, and helpful pinyin guidance, with bite-sized daily sessions that aid consistent practice. The main downsides are limited free access (ads and short trials), tone reproduction that isn’t always accurate, and occasional content/feature reliability issues. Despite these, most reviews view the app as a valuable tool for pronunciation training and aural practice.
Pros
  • Authentic pronunciation and strong tone-training focus that helps with listening and reproduction
  • Excellent for tone recognition and improving overall pronunciation
  • Comprehensive pinyin practice with an in-app pronunciation guide
  • Engaging, bite-sized daily sessions that support steady practice and habit-building
Cons
  • Limited free access with ads and short trial; full use requires upgrading
  • Tone playback and reproduction are not always accurate, with difficulty distinguishing similar tones (e.g., 2nd vs 3rd)
  • Occasional content/feature reliability issues (e.g., some words having wrong tones; features like draw-the-tone mode not always working)

This quick and playful app was just right for an adult learner like me, drilled with the tones but still missing many by ear in real time. Pleasant articulate voice, easy button selections, low price, fun challenges. Might even help watching Cdramas!

This is probably the best way to get the little bit of training you need. A little bit every day. I do two sessions of 50 correct answers. My incorrect percentage has gone down from 33% to 16% in a bit over a week. I think a couple months will make it automatic for be, which is what you need.
