User Reviews

Reviewers consistently praise EGW Writings for its simple, focused UI (especially the classic version), strong full-text search, a large integrated library, and color-coded highlights with organized folders, plus offline access. However, repeated issues include crashes, login and syncing friction, and content gaps (missing newer books). The newer EGW2 app is viewed unfavorably by many who prefer parity with or replacement by the classic. Color scheme concerns and occasional feature gaps (export, precise paragraph navigation) also recur.
Pros
  • Simple, clean UI and a focus on ease of use, especially in the classic version (praised for being faster and straightforward).
  • Strong, fast full-text search and quick reference-based search capability.
  • Large, integrated library of Ellen White writings accessible in one app.
  • Color-coded highlights with the ability to save highlights into folders for organization.
  • Offline access to content and a lighter footprint (does not require downloading large books) as reported by users.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and stability issues (crashes reported across multiple reviews).
  • Login/sign-in friction and partial device syncing (need to sign in frequently; issues syncing between devices).
  • Preference for the classic app over the newer EGW2 version; many users find the new app less intuitive and desirable to keep the old version available.
  • Content gaps / not updated with newer writings (missing newer books and some materials; some content not accessible in the app).
  • UI color scheme problems (limited color palette and distasteful color scheme) and desire for a more neutral/plain theme.

When i want to change or add to the highlight i already have, it doesn't even come up as an option. By the way, please have it easier like it used to be, to highlight text. One now has to scroll three times on a tiny, minute inset to choose highlight (if it's even there). I don't like the new egw 2 app either regarding colors where they only have 4 colors showing unless you choose another color which then bumps the other ones... just have them ALL showing for petes sake 😂

Still better than the new version. Simple and easy to load. Like many have said, having to log in every time in the new one is not easy and annoyingly complicated. This continues to be my go to app even though the new one has so many more features. I want to spend my time reading or searching not trying to get into the app.

I have and use both programs, this one and number 2. I still use this one most of the time. I developed different colors for highlighting different quotes. The different colors have come to mean different things to me. So it’s a good thing to have and use. But I can’t transport it to the new program because it is incompatible with it. So I would lose the colored markings that help me to find and better understand what I am reading. It’s also easy to use. And it has good features that helps me to bring up and to also search for quotes I’m trying to find. The only problem is that it doesn’t have the newer books and the letters and manuscripts that have come out. So, when I have to, I will use the number 2 program to get these writings that are not on this program. While it is more powerful, it is harder to use. You have many more steps to go through to see what your looking for.
