User Reviews
Pros
- Valuable local journalism that strengthens the Northwest Indiana community, with readers praising reporting by specific journalists (e.g., Jerry Davich, John Doherty) and the hometown feel.
- Some readers appreciate the clipping feature on iPad as a useful tool for saving and sharing articles.
- When the app functions and content is accessible, it delivers worthwhile local news and coverage that readers value.
Cons
- Frequent login/sign-in issues and app crashes, causing repeated sign-ins and loss of reading progress.
- High subscription costs and paywall friction, with many reviewers feeling the price is excessive and some content is not free, plus difficulties canceling.
- Ad-heavy experience, including ads even for paid subscribers, which disrupts readability and usability.
- Unreliable content access and quality problems, such as unavailable articles, stories not continuing, and proofreading/content issues.
- Poor UI/UX and navigation, with a clunky interface, layout issues, and annoying duplicate notifications that hamper the reading experience.
Recent reviews
The app does not function properly. Articles that are “unavailable”. Audio stops mid article, then you have to scroll to the top to get to the audio control, then it starts at the beginning again. Audio words regularly mis-pronounced, for example “read” is never past tense even when it should be, and anything with a double F, such as “effort” or “difference”. And now I’m getting ads on the app, which is why I stopped listening online. The amount I pay for a subscription has gone up more than five times in a year such that the price is outweighing the product I’m receiving.

trying to read can be frustrating when the site won't allow the separate reading window to open on many stories and the size control of pages is terribly erratic increasing the page hugely when trying to activate the reading window and failing to activate the reader.
the Chicago Tribune's e-paper is much better in operation
