User Reviews

User reviews consistently praise UK Map for its high-quality, offline-ready maps (especially OS maps), reliable GPS, and helpful detail for hiking and UK travel. The app is valued for offline use, savings on roaming data, and an extensive gazetteer of POIs. However, several common drawbacks emerge: the app is large and memory-intensive with lengthy map-download times; some users consider the price high; licensing/map-scale limitations can reduce detail; and some essential features (like bookmarking/waypoints) are missing, with occasional bugs noted.
Pros
  • Excellent, detailed OS maps; considered the best available for UK hiking and travel.
  • Strong offline capability: download maps in advance and use GPS offline.
  • Accurate GPS/location that reliably pinpoints your position and helps prevent getting lost.
  • Good value for money; cheaper than a comparable OS app and often less expensive than buying paper maps.
  • Rich gazetteer and points of interest; monuments, parks, forests, waterways, and other POIs help planning and navigation.
Cons
  • Very large app size and memory usage on the device.
  • Downloading detailed maps/tiles can be slow and data-heavy due to many tiles.
  • Some users consider the price high or not cheap.
  • Map scale/licensing limitations reduce available detail (e.g., 1:50k not available) and can limit functionality.
  • Missing essential features (e.g., bookmarking/waypoints) and occasional bugs.

This is the map app I use the most. The maps (essentially OS) maps are the best available. It doesn't do navigation like google maps but the maps themselves are way better. Truly excellent for hiking and general travel, and much much cheaper than the similar OS app, since the maps these early are free. Highly recommended.

This was a great app when it came out, but it needs updating. I would be willing to pay for an update if it were as good as the original.

I downloaded this map and have to say that no mapping app is less intuitive than this one. It uses up vast phone resources will little benefit. In spite of having paid $10 for it, I deleted it to conserve resources. What a waste of money!
