User Reviews

The World HD is praised as a strong offline atlas with detailed maps and easy navigation, valuable for reference and world events. Users love offline capability, clear map rendering, fast loading, and cross-device interface. However, recurring complaints focus on usability: zooming isn’t globe-like and navigation isn’t smooth; some regions lack political detail (no states/provinces) and there are inconsistencies across areas; data is not up-to-date (e.g., Mount McKinley/Denali). There’s no legend for symbols or colors, making interpretation harder. Overall, a solid offline atlas with room for UI and data improvements.
Pros
  • Offline access: works without internet and provides atlas data offline
  • Clear, detailed map rendering with good zoom in/out
  • Easy navigation to find countries quickly with tap-to-view details
  • Reliable atlas/reference content that works well on both iPad and iPhone
Cons
  • Zooming is not globe-like; you can't smoothly scroll across the map and often must select a country to zoom
  • Outdated information and infrequent updates; examples include old names (Mount McKinley/Denali) and national data
  • No legend or key for map symbols/colors, making interpretation harder
  • Limited geopolitical detail (no states/provinces; regional labeling is incomplete and inconsistent)

You don’t continuously scroll like spinning a globe. This is just like a paper map with edges. The whole zoom thing really doesn’t work like it was described. The font doesn’t even resize. If you want additional zoom, you have to pick a specific country.

There doesn’t seem to be a key as to what various symbols mean.
