AP News offers strong, unbiased journalism and reliable updates for free, but users repeatedly report a painful UX: intrusive, touchy ads; slow loads; buggy behavior; and a scrolling UI that’s hindered by photo carousels. Notifications also fail to open the exact article. Content quality is widely praised, but performance and UX need improvement to match the caliber of the reporting.

Cons

Ads are extremely sensitive and frequently trigger as you scroll, causing accidental taps and navigation away from articles (e.g., Expedia ads).
Very slow loading times for lists and individual articles.
App stability issues: stalls, freezes, and inconsistent loading.
UI/UX issues like mid-screen photo carousels blocking vertical scrolling.
Notifications do not deep-link to the article; tapping a notification returns to the home screen.

Recent reviews

Sound started autoplaying on ads that also bait you into clicking with ‘play sound’ buttons (to turn it off). Ad auto expands and can’t be scrolled past. APnews feedback form links directly to Jira and wont proceed without fields fully filled out, and wont take a fake or blank URL. I am not clicking on the ad. Do your own damn QA

You can’t even scroll through the articles without triggering an advertisement opening in an external browser. Often it’s an advertisement that hasn’t even loaded in the AP News app yet, so even if you try to avoid ads while scrolling you can’t avoid it. Obviously they get paid by the click, so they force clicks. The news is good; the UI is borderline fraudulent.
