The DigiKey iOS app offers a large catalog of electronic components with fast shipping and useful BoM tools, plus easy mobile search for parts lists. However, it suffers from significant reliability issues: frequent login problems, persistent errors/crashes, and slow performance; unreliable filtering/sorting; carts being cleared during checkout; and noisy results with obsolete/out-of-stock parts. These drawbacks contrast with the strong catalog and mobile conveniences, indicating the app is valuable for planning and purchasing when it works, but requires major reliability improvements.

Pros

Huge inventory of high-quality electronic components with fast, secure shipping.
BoM management tools are a welcome bonus.
Handy for building parts lists and searching for parts on mobile.
Shipping is reasonable and prices are good.
Positive brand experience and knowledgeable support.

Cons

Frequent login/sign-in issues on the app, including being unable to sign in or sign out repeatedly.
Persistent errors and crashes (e.g., 'we’ve encountered an error', 403/500) and slow responses.
Cart can be cleared or items disappear during checkout without warning.
Filtering and sorting are unreliable or slow; cannot sort by price/quantity and filters reset.
Search results include many obsolete or out-of-stock parts; hard to filter them out by default.

Lately, the app has become entirely unusable- any search, any selection from the Home Screen, gives a message “the application has encountered an error”, and I’m back to using the website instead. Frustrating!
