User Reviews

EchoLink on Apple devices is praised for being free and enabling worldwide ham communication, with good audio when functioning and broad cross-platform reach (iPhone, iPad, Android, PC). But reviews repeatedly flag login/server connectivity failures; mic gain/volume controls missing or broken on iPadOS; password length restrictions not aligned with desktop; favorites reordering problems; and update-related audio/connection instability. Some cite incomplete station directories and tedious verification. Overall, strong value but needs ongoing reliability fixes.
Pros
  • Free to use and enables worldwide amateur radio communication
  • Cross-platform compatibility across iPhone, iPad, Android, and PC
  • Portable/mobile-friendly for on-the-go use
  • Generally strong audio quality when functioning
Cons
  • Login and server connectivity problems (login failures, ā€œno servers respondingā€)
  • Microphone gain/volume controls missing or malfunctioning on iPadOS/iOS
  • Password length restrictions inconsistent with desktop (limit around 14 chars on iOS) and reset/login challenges
  • Favorites management changes (alphabetical sorting by default and no easy reordering) and related usability issues
  • Update-related audio or connection instability (garbled audio, post-update issues)

I truly love that EchoLink allows licensed amateur radio hobbyists to find new ways to communicate. The app is fun, but takes a bit of clicking around and experimenting to get the hang of it. Is there room for improvement? Sure, but for an app that cost me nothing, I am beyond satisfied!

I cannot find my favorites. I cannot get echo test to work. I see this useless map along with boxes that might have stations in them, but I can’t get them to work. I am going to return to my android version as that works!. If I could get anything to work on this app, it would be a miracle. I would give this zero stars if I could. I am shocked with what the developers have done with the Apple version of this EchoLink. Fix it!!!
