User Reviews

iDesign is a capable 2D CAD app for iPad with strong drafting tools, cross-platform file sharing, and solid developer support. Many long-time users valued its one-time purchase and years of free updates. However, reviews focus on the controversial shift to a subscription model, which locks access to existing drawings, limits the free tier, and raises concerns about data access and value. Some users report stability issues like crashes. Overall, it remains a powerful tool for users comfortable with ongoing fees and potential risk to legacy files.
Pros
  • Powerful 2D CAD/drafting on iPad with snapping, grids, layers, and precise drawing tools.
  • Long-standing value with a one-time purchase and many years of free updates.
  • Useful across domains (engineering, woodworking, design) with strong export/import and cloud syncing.
  • Strong ecosystem integration (iCloud/Dropbox syncing; works on Mac via iOS app).
  • Responsive developer support and ongoing updates.
Cons
  • Forced subscription model after a long period of one-time ownership; many buyers feel it devalues their prior purchase.

This was one of my first apps ever purchased for the iPad. I designed an octagon deck with it and a radiator shroud for my truck. Glad to see the developer is still making updates!

I don’t use this app much but used to rely on it for occasional drawings. I may remember this wrong, but I think i paid for it at the time it was for purchase without subscription. Now that I wanted to use it again, the forced subscription turns this into can expensive casual app for me or reduced to be a viewer only. My memory may serve me wrong, but having originally paid for a perpetual app makes this change unacceptable. Why not freeze the original release and introduce an iDesign2 to continue with a subscription. I understand the business model, but cannot help the disappointment.
