User Reviews

Reviews cluster around reliability problems: persistent login/auth failures, broken provider sign-in, and playback issues (especially on Apple TV). Updates also removed film info and metadata, degrading the user experience. The main positives are the app’s iconic catalog of classic films and its value for travelers, reflecting strong fan loyalty despite ongoing reliability problems.
Pros
  • Strong catalog of classic films that fans value.
  • Useful for travelers—watching TCM when hotel TV doesn’t carry it.
  • Longstanding fan support and positive sentiment toward the WatchTCM app.
  • Historically offered in-depth film information (bios, background notes) that film buffs appreciated.
Cons
  • Frequent authentication/login failures across devices and providers (not authenticated errors, reauthentication demands).
  • Apple TV app instability—black screen or won’t launch on some devices.
  • Provider/login integration issues: login links to providers don’t work or show 'Unsupported Provider' messages.
  • Updates removed film information and metadata (cast/bios/plots) and reduced content context.
  • Playback issues: films won’t play or show Not Authorized errors, sometimes only clips play.

In the age of streaming platforms, this platform still requires you to have some form of cable TV. Spectrum, dish, AT&T U-verse… The list goes on. I love classic films. It’s one of my favorite things to watch, and I have purchase multiple that I have in my library on prime and on Apple. Such a shame that one of my favorite mediums I can’t watch because I don’t have the budget nor do I want to dish out hundreds of dollars a month for channels I don’t want, nor is it even affordable anymore. I love turn classic movies, including side segments from Ben Mankiewicz and old bits of Robert Osborne. The love of the Classics that they had came across in their commentaries. It is a shared love that I have for these films, but can no longer indulge in thanks to this format. What a pity.

This app is so bad and seems to get worse all the time. Try to run the app on the iPad says not authenticated. Try to sign in, get no option to. Run the amazon firestick version, just spins, doing nothing so many times. No network problem other streaming apps are fine. I suppose Turner has gone straight to hell since Ted passed.
