User Reviews

Overall, Garmin Pilot on Apple is valued for affordable pricing, strong Garmin integration, and Smart Charts with broad airport chart access. Reviewers praise cross-device consistency and the Garmin-like interface. Common drawbacks across multiple reviews include persistent syncing/update issues, stability problems and in-flight crashes, and a challenging ForeFlight migration experience. Markup capabilities and overall polish are also cited as lacking. In short, it’s a solid Garmin-centric EFB option with clear benefits, but reliability and migration flow still need attention.
Pros
  • Affordable pricing with a simple two-tier subscription
  • Smart Charts feature praised for advanced charting
  • Strong Garmin integration with avionics, logbook, and engine monitoring
  • Consistent Garmin-like interface across iOS devices and good cross-platform usability
  • Wide access to airport charts with charts available for many locations
Cons
  • Frequent syncing and update issues (charts not updating in background, W&B syncing problems)
  • Stability and performance bugs during flight (crashes, freezes, not polished)
  • ForeFlight migration experience is painful (manual data import/transition)
  • Limitations in chart markup/annotation (difficulty marking up charts or plates)

When I file a IFR plan if my airport doesn’t stars with a K then it just says ZZZZZ on my flight plans and if at doesn’t catch it in the details they can reject the flight plans. Also getting my exact aircraft type and performance data has been hard and still now rite I have a Cessna P210N and I wish there were one I could just import the data from and make minor changes. My plane burns 20 gph and I still don’t think I have the default fuel burn set rite

I flew in the days without EFBs, and using Garmin Pilot is a game changer. It’s easy to use and helps simplify flying in coordination with the built-in Garmin avionics.
