Features & Capabilities

Pure GPS stores and directs you to exact destinations using latitude and longitude coordinates. Designed to leverage your iPhone's built-in GPS with a clean, simple interface, it makes navigation to a waypoint as easy as entering coordinates or marking locations on a map. You can save multiple waypoints, mark your current position, or drop a long-press on the map to create a new one, then share a waypoint via email and navigate back to saved locations at any time. It also supports background proximity alerts and does not require creating an account, preserving privacy.

Key features include maps, support for metric and imperial units, speed and heading readouts, and flexible input methods. Save your current location as a waypoint, navigate to stored destinations, and receive notifications as you approach them, even when the app runs in the background. Note that continued background GPS usage may affect battery life. No accounts are required—privacy-friendly by design. If you have questions, you can reach us from the app Settings.

User Reviews

Pure GPS is praised for its simple, fast interface and reliable waypoint storage, with handy features like distance-based sorting and easy return navigation. However, the experience is marred by heavy ads that interrupt tasks and cause delays, plus recurring stability issues and crashes. The app also appears undermaintained, showing an old update date and compatibility issues on older devices. Overall, it’s a strong minimal GPS tool for basic use if you can tolerate ads and occasional crashes.
Pros
  • Simple, uncluttered interface that is easy to use
  • Accurate waypoint marking and navigation with efficient battery use
  • Sorts and manages many waypoints (e.g., by distance) for quick reference
  • Lightweight with no unnecessary bells and whistles; reliable basic waypoint tracker
  • Stores locations effectively and allows quick return/navigation to them
Cons
  • Intrusive, heavy advertising that disrupts usage (full-screen pop-ups, long delays)
  • Crashes and stability issues (including crashes when exporting waypoints by email)
  • Appears not actively maintained; outdated update history (last update ~2019) and compatibility problems on older iOS devices

The app was last updated in 2019. There is no way to stop navigating to waypoints, even when you reach them. Try not to use any features of the app because if you click something you get an ad. The ads are constant and too long for this app to be useful.

This simple functionality is what I was looking for, but the ads are a most annoying delay to get to what you want to do. I wouldn’t mind paying a few dollars to get rid of the ads!

Every time you tab a button an ads starts. It toke mine to load a single waypoint due to all the ads I had to watch. What a waste of time
